Jean Vanier Catholic Secondary

The high calibre gym and facilities encourage a competitive level of athletics and performance – drawing in students, parents and the community.

Doug Snyder, Principal

Jean Vanier boasts a Gym flooded with natural light and spirit. It is a bright welcoming space for physical activity that encourages students to develop life-long healthy habits and an enjoyment of physical fitness. With clear views of the Niagara Escarpment, it is no dark box!

The Gym is like a sports complex with an indoor track overlooking the Gym floor, an exercise mezzanine that oversees this and, with the wellness program adjacent, there’s therapy and teaching next door. The workout area is designed like an adult fitness centre. It’s a mature space, designed like a private gym to help transition students from a school-driven sports/phys ed. program to self-directed fitness and healthy habits.

With an acoustic-dampening ceiling and rubber track, it’s an active space but not too loud. Dynamic school graphics on the floor add to the fun and school spirit. The Gym is set up for public use and outside permits. The public can access the Gym yet the school itself can be closed off from this area if necessary. Jean Vanier has the ability to support large public events with its double Gym and act as a social centre and alternative community hub.

The high calibre gym and facilities encourage a competitive level of athletics and performance, drawing in students, parents and the community for sporting and other events. The school supports athletes at the top of their game – many are province-wide champions.
