Jean Vanier Catholic Secondary

We want this to be a point of celebration and showcase those qualities of light and social connectivity. We want these kids to know they are important.

Doug Snyder, Principal

The entrance is a very important feature for setting the right context. We want the students to feel valued and a sense of self worth is a key stepping stone to engagement.  We want this to be a point of celebration and showcase those qualities of light and social connectivity. We want these kids to know they are important.

Entrance is also important in terms of adjacencies. We want to give students a place to hang out and call their own. There is a ‘formal’ entrance facing the street but intentionally not intended to be used much. The main student entrance is on the south side by the drop off, next to the courtyard, cafeteria and the stair tower. Here, one can see right into the heart of the school and the spatial adjacencies enable kids to readily connect with their friends.
