Bill Crothers Secondary

“People in the community can see the action on the field and feel the physical energy that is this schools’ focus.”

Paul Stevens, Senior Principal

Bill Crothers’ sports fields are amazing. The outdoor amenities include: a field house; two artificial turf fields; one natural turf field; a running track; and facilities for javelin, discus, long jump and other sports. To make it welcoming to students and the community at large, we landscaped natural seating around the two fields and the retaining wall provides seating for 1,000 people.

The fields meet international standards so they can be used for track and field events at the highest possible level. This becomes a real magnet for sporting events and furthers the York Board’s connection to the community.

The City of Markham partnered with the Board so that the community also had access to the sports fields. The City paid for the two artificial fields and related lighting which allowed us to reduce costs yet provide great facilities. As you approach the school you immediately see these fields; they’re not in the back, where usually schools place them. Visitors can see them immediately and it sets the tone for the purpose of the school.
